Merging Morton Fisher and Gwynnes in 2005 put the ‘mf’ into mfg Solicitors.
Black Country and Worcestershire-based Morton Fisher was formed from the merger of Ivens & Morton and Fisher Holyoake in 1988.
However, Morton Fisher can trace its roots back even further, starting with Macy, Hemingway & Sons – later Hemingways - in 1556. Ivens & Morton, which itself evolved from the partnership of Day & Ivens formed in 1867, merged with Hemingways in 1974.
Following the 1988 merger, Morton Fisher was gradually rebranded as mf Solicitors until it was amalgamated with Shropshire-based Gwynnes in 2005 to form mfg Solicitors.
The merger enabled both Morton Fisher and Gwynnes to increase their financial strength and expanded the combined firm’s areas of expertise. The deal also created a firm which can act as a leading supplier of a full range of legal services across the central region.
As both firms had significant agricultural practices, the merger created one of the country’s largest teams.
